Amec Foster Wheeler awarded FEED for the Salamanca uranium mine in Spain

30 September 2016

I'm delighted to announce that Amec Foster Wheeler's mining entity in Johannesburg, MDM Engineering, has been awarded a FEED contract by Berkeley Energia for the Salamanca Uranium development in Western Spain. The intention of the FEED is to conduct sufficient engineering to enable MDM to produce a control budget estimate (CBE) accurate to ∓ 10% which will be used to fix the price for the execution of the project for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. In addition to the engineering effort required to complete the design, project management elements for the FEED phase will also include risk assessment and HAZOP activities. The duration of the work is expected to be for 6 months commencing October 2016 The Salamanca project is being developed in a historic uranium mining area about three hours west of Madrid. The MDM Engineering team has been engaged on this project from the early metallurgical phases, following which they were awarded the DFS in 2015. The DFS was recently completed and discussions with the customer confirmed that MDM Engineering would be retained as their preferential partner into the FEED. MDM Engineering will work closely with Amec Foster Wheeler's Spanish offices to engage local capability and ensure that we consider the best possible solution to deliver the Salamanca project. This award is testament to the strong longer-term relationship we have with this important customer - Congratulations to all on this strategic win.
