MDM Engineering awarded full EPCM contract for uranium and gold plant construction at Ezulwini

7 August 2007

Johannesburg, 7 August 2007: MDM Engineering Limited announced today that the company has been awarded the full EPCM contract for the construction of both the gold and uranium metallurgical plants, and associated infrastructure, at First Uranium’s Ezulwini underground mining project. Ezulwini is being developed by First Uranium, the TSX and JSE-listed uranium company in which Simmer and Jack has a 65% stake.

MDM Engineering will construct the uranium and gold processing facilities at Ezulwini with the first gold expected to be produced in April 2008, building up to over 340,000 ounces per annum by March 2011. Uranium production is expected to begin in June 2008, building up to over 650,000 pounds per annum by March 2011. The project is scheduled to take 20 months to complete and the contract is valued at US$110 million with an expected employee complement required of 300 to 400 people. Key deliverables included in the scope of work include: a bankable feasibility study, and the design and construction of the processing plants and associated infrastructure. The plants will operate at a throughput capacity of 1.97 million tonnes per annum. The Ezulwini project is located some 40 km from Johannesburg in the western portion of the Witwatersrand Basin.

Ezulwini will be one of the first uranium plants to be built in South Africa in almost 25 years, and MDM Engineering is fortunate to be able to include the capabilities of David Dodd on this project. David is one of the few local metallurgists with uranium expertise, who has been involved in the process design of uranium plants in South Africa.

MDM Engineering CEO George Bennett said that MDM Engineering was excited to be involved in Ezulwini. “The international market for uranium is becoming very interesting, and we are pleased that MDM Engineering will be playing a key role in growing uranium production in South Africa.”

Currently, MDM Engineering is involved in various projects totaling some US$400 million and the company is considering a listing on an international exchange later in the year.
